Ranking guide

How to use this pokemon gen 2 tier list maker

Johto is the generation people defend hardest and justify least. It added only 100 species, and a large share of them are baby forms, cross-generation evolutions of Kanto lines, and single-stage regional animals, so a Gen 2 board is really an argument about whether a design earns its slot or coasts on the Kanto family it was attached to.

  1. 01

Separate the genuinely new Johto lines from the Kanto extensions — Crobat, Blissey, Steelix and Scizor are Gen 2 species, but they inherit affection built up in Gen 1.

  2. 02

Judge the baby Pokemon on their own merits rather than as accessories to their evolved forms, since that is where most Gen 2 disagreements actually live.

  3. 03

Use the type filters to check the first Dark and Steel species; Johto introduced both, and Umbreon, Houndoom, Skarmory and Scizor tend to move as a block.

Pokemon Gen 2 tier list criteria that keep the board consistent

  • Design confidence — whether the species reads as its own idea or as a Kanto footnote
  • Regional identity, including how strongly it belongs to Johto rather than anywhere else
  • Staying power across later games, remakes and spin-offs

Roster freshness

How versioned Pokemon Gen 2 links stay readable

This page uses template revision 3456167347. Built-in items have stable IDs, so a share or challenge link can restore their tier positions without embedding image files. If a future released roster changes, it receives a new revision instead of silently changing an older link.

Pokemon gen 2 tier list maker FAQ

How many items are in this Pokemon Gen 2 tier list?

The published roster contains 100 image-backed Pokemon, each included exactly once.

Does this include Kanto Pokemon that evolve into Johto species?

No. The roster is the 100 species introduced in Generation 2 by National Dex number. Pichu, Cleffa and Igglybuff are here because they debuted in Gen 2; Pikachu, Clefairy and Jigglypuff belong to the Gen 1 template.

Where are the legendary beasts and Lugia?

Raikou, Entei, Suicune, Lugia, Ho-Oh and Celebi are all in the roster. They sit in the same bank as everything else, so a legendary only reaches S tier if you put it there.

Can I start the Pokemon Gen 2 board blank?

Yes. Every built-in template opens with empty tiers, so none of the 100 Pokemon are pre-placed. Your draft stays in this browser using local storage.

Can I challenge a friend?

Yes. Rank a few items, copy the challenge link, and your friend can make an independent board before the result is revealed.
